My background
I have enjoyed films my entire life. Comedy, mystery, drama, gangster, noir, horror, western, war and action films all can be wonderful. As a youngster, these films amazed and entertained me as I watched them on a black and white television. These films always held a special interest for me as they opened a window to the past. History, studio politics, the era’s attitudes, the personalities in front of and behind the camera and film making styles all make these films a special viewing experience. Becoming older, I enjoyed reading about Hollywood stars, the films and the stories of how they were produced. High School brought a life long hobby of collecting movie memorabilia, books and autographs and my first stage performances. College brought Theater courses to further my appreciation of the entertainment industry. As an adult, I became an actor, writer and director of Dinner Theater Murder Mystery shows and a Master of Ceremonies. As the Co - Grand Sheik (President) of the “Second Hundred Years” tent (The Laurel and Hardy Appreciation Society) on Long Island, I spoke to our members about the films before the screenings. Then my friend, “The Movie Man - John Carpenter”, gave me the opportunity to speak at some of his lectures and this inspired me to began presenting lectures on my own topics and interests to public and private audiences. Today, I even get calls from around the country asking for assistance in answering fans questions.
These films and personalities bring back happy memories. Who doesn’t remember laughing with Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, The Three Stooges or The Marx Brothers? Is there any greater love story than “Casablanca”? Who didn’t watch in awe at the remarkable “King Kong” or at the ending of “Planet of the Apes” the first time viewing it? Shouldn’t politics fit the ideals of Jimmy Stewart in “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington”? Who doesn’t pull for Gary Cooper to take his honorable stand in “High Noon”? Doesn’t “It’s a Wonderful Life” remind us of how special a gift we possess each and every day? It is said, “They don’t make ‘em like this anymore”, but thank goodness we still have them today.
For more than fifteen years, I have been sharing my love of cinema and classic television with audiences. Unlike some lecturers, I don’t cover too many subjects in each lecture or just skim over the subject matter. You are provided with interesting background facts and fun behind the screen stories. I was the first on Long Island to bring music and actual film memorabilia, autographs and books to provide audiences with an opportunity for a total experience with the subject matter. Being called “the most enthusiastic and informative speaker” that an audience has ever encountered is the best compliment I can receive! These family friendly lecture topics are very special to me and I pride myself in sharing information and my enthusiasm with your employees, patrons, religious congregations, home owner associations, students and guests for corporate, private or public functions. From formal classroom settings, to a ZOOM event or an afternoon or evening at a local library or club, my goal is for everyone to sit back, enjoy themselves, learn about the topic presented and relive some wonderful memories.
Please feel free to contact me at any time about bringing my love of classic Hollywood films, stars and film memorabilia to you! You can reach me by email at wolffman@optonline.net or by phone at 631 942 - 5237.
