"Buster Keaton - The Great Stoneface" - Open to the public - Frick Estate Lecture Series - In-Person - Registration required - See below for registration details

  • Friuck Lectures at the Nassau County Museum of Art 1 Museum Drive Roslyn, NY (map)

An innovative, independent and a dedicated workhorse, Buster Keaton is one of the three giants of silent comedy (along with Charles Chaplin and Harold Lloyd) and remains an icon in the world of comedy. In this presentation, you will learn about his beginnings with Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle, why he developed his “Stone Face” look, his triumphs and the tragedies that lead to his fall with the advent of sound. And it was not his voice that wrecked his sound career, but his personal life coupled with drinking and a very bad business decision! Unlike his friends and contemporaries Lloyd and Chaplin that had retired from the screen, years earlier, Buster continued to work in film, commercials and television until his death. Some of Buster’s best silent work will be screened with this lecture and his gags and films are still amazing to this day! An autograph, memorabilia and book display is included.

You can register by simply using the website (www.thefrickestatelectures.org) or calling the lecture office at 516-415-1101 and leaving a message – they will get right back to you and register you by credit card.  Checks are also accepted but may be delayed at their P.O. Box in Greenvale, so if you do use the postal mail, either email admin@thefrickestatelectures.org or call their phone number to let them know you would like to attend.
